The result of a cooperation agreement between the government of the Russian Federation and the government of the Republic of Turkey in 2010, the Akkuyu nuclear power plant with a total power of 4,800 MW comprises four units equipped with VVER-1200 reactors. The site, located in Mersin on Turkey’s southern coast, is the country’s first nuclear facility.

This major energy investment is part of a policy of energy independence and increasing the skills of local actors in the sector. The project is managed by the state-owned company Rosatom, which is responsible for the design, construction, maintenance, commissioning and, at the end of its life, decommissioning of the site.

The Akkuyu Nuclear Power Plant construction project is the world’s first Build-Own-Operate nuclear power plant project, coming at a total cost of approximately $20 billion.

As a local manufacturer, Şafak was selected to provide connectors for power supply networks and earthing circuits, implementation tools and heat shrink sheaths for the entire installation.
